The Yetis Community and Outreach

8th Grade FTC Team

Our Aspen Middle School eighth graders include some avid robotics members. Previously, in FLL as Lightning Strikes Twice, the 8th-grade team qualified for the FLL World Championships last year. This year, they wanted to push themselves and join the AHS robotics team. Every day, our team taught them the basics of building, the notebook, and more. We revived the Black Forest team name and helped them build a kit robot. With our mentorship, they experienced substantial growth.

Logo Contest

Our team hosts an annual logo competition featuring our yeti namesake. This competition invites elementary and middle schoolers to express their creativity. We offer a $25 gift certificate for the winner

Clubs Fair

The main way our team attracts new members is at our school’s club fair. The fair happens every mid-October. During our study hall period, clubs set up tables in the gym. Every year, we sign up for a table, make sure we have a robot for demonstrations and print out sign-up sheets. This is a good opportunity to remind our community about the robotics club and to get new students or freshmen involved. Leading up to the club's fair, we also post flyers around the school. We got two consistent new members this fall from the fair

Foreign Exchange Students

One of the most exciting aspects of our outreach this year was having an Italian exchange student join our team temporarily. Giovanni is Jack's sister cities partner, and was staying in Aspen for a semester. We taught him how our meetings went, and even had him help build. Although he only joined us for a couple of weeks, the extra set of hands (and free Italian lessons) was super helpful, and a memorable experience.
